EDHITHA UAS

is a multidisciplinary student team from Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore, India developing Unmanned Autonomous Systems (UAS).

Team Edhitha participates in the annual Students Unmanned Autonomous Systems (SUAS) competition. We also aim to expand unmanned systems to civilian applications in agriculture, law enforcement, etc.

Designing

  • The UAV’s airframe was crafted with careful attention to
aerodynamics, material selection, and structural strength.
Using CAD tools and simulations, structural integrity,
weight efficiency, and stable flight were ensured. The UAV
was also designed for ease of transport, featuring a
compact size that fits into a personal bag. Every design
choice was aligned with mission requirements.

Components

  • Components were carefully selected and tested to meet
the mission requirements, including the propulsion system
for thrust, batteries for endurance, communication
systems for reliable contact with ground control, and
imagery hardware such as cameras and an onboard
computer for enhanced detection and aerial mapping.

Research and Development

  • Extensive research and development were conducted,
exploring different approaches for system design
and mission execution. Various methods were
    evaluated through prototyping and simulations.
Trade-offs involving resources, time, and manpower
were carefully considered, resulting in the
selection of practical solutions and the
elimination of approaches that were not feasible
    within the given constraints.

Testing

  • All software stacks and systems were thoroughly
tested using SITL and HITL simulations. Control
system testing was carried out to validate
    stability and performance. Each subsystem,
including ODCL mapping and airdrop mechanisms,
was individually tested before full integration
to ensure reliability and seamless operation
    during missions.
