Drones, precision, and a whole lot of patriotism. It all started in 2023, when our drone hoisted the Karnataka state flag in front of a massive crowd — with none other than the Honourable Ex-Chief Minister, Mr. Basavaraj Bommai, triggering the flag drop himself. Since then, it’s become a tradition we proudly carry forward every Kannada Rajyotsava, right here in our college.
We designed and perfected a drone-based flag drop system that adds a bold, modern twist to traditional flag hoisting — combining precise aerial control with visual flair. It's not just about flying; it's about flying with meaning.
Our custom-built mechanism ensures a perfectly timed and smooth flag release, choreographed to match the ceremonial flow. Over the years, we've also deployed it during Republic Day and Independence Day events, turning heads and making moments unforgettable. It’s more than just a drone trick — it’s engineering that tells a story, honors tradition, and stirs a bit of awe in the crowd.
The flag drop might last just a few seconds, but what goes into it spans days of planning and testing. Long before the event, we conduct multiple test sessions — fine-tuning the release mechanism, balancing payloads, perfecting servo timings, and rehearsing every movement until it’s just right. We leave nothing to chance.
The night before each event, we go full throttle into testing mode — not just a quick check, but a full dry run of the flag drop using the actual flag and smoke bombs to replicate the ceremony as closely as possible. From verifying drop height to syncing the smoke trail timing, it’s all about making sure showtime goes off without a hitch.
On the day of the event, the team gets together to sprinkle flower petals inside the rolled flag, attach the red and yellow Karnataka-themed smoke bombs, and prep the drone for its big moment.
When it all comes together in the air — flag unfurled, petals falling, smoke trailing behind — it’s more than just a visual. It’s the reward for all those late-night tests, careful builds, and the pride we put into every flight.
